We aren’t making games in a black box. We’re doing the research in the open.

Ometepe Research is the research lab of ZeroFox Games. We make AI-assisted, AI-generated, and AI-enhanced video games — not to chase a trend, but to investigate one. The industry is in the middle of a hard, unresolved conversation about what these tools mean for storytelling. We’d rather be in that conversation with finished work and an open notebook than shouting from the sidelines.

Our games are a medium, not a product line. Each one is a thesis — a way to ask a question about interactive storytelling and answer it by building something playable. Some questions are about craft. Some are about ethics. Some are about genres that quietly died and deserve another look.

We don’t hide the AI. We document it, we challenge it, and when it fails — which is often — we write that down too. The goal isn’t to prove AI can make games. The goal is to learn to tell stories better, to keep ambitious stories alive for small teams, and to remember the forms the industry forgot.

The island of Ometepe is two volcanoes rising out of a lake — old and active, reflected in still water. It seemed like the right name for a place that looks both backward and forward at once.
